She clutched hard and didn’t let go.
So hard, that her veins began to show.
Fingers went numb, but the grip remained,
Trying to salvage, whatever little she had gained.
Then out of the blue, her will gave way.
And as the blood rushed to her palm;
So did a curious euphoria,
That filled her with an absolute calm.
Now that the clouds had left her alone,
She was on her own.
